Southberg is a UK based investment company focused on the agricultural sector.

We see a long-term opportunity in responsible production of
high-value permanent crops and commodities.

The global population is predicted to grow to almost 10 billion by 2050. Together with rising living standards this will boost agricultural demand. Our focus is on creating value by utilising technology and regenerative farming techniques to enhance soil quality and
produce superior yields of high-quality products, while preserving the natural environment and making efficient
and optimal use of water resources.

Investment Approach

As a long-term investor we carry out in-depth analyses of global markets and products to identify opportunities in agricultural production. Once we have identified a crop, we seek to gain a thorough understanding of the technical, agronomic aspects of its cultivation, often working with experts from world-class research institutions. This knowledge enables us to model production and identify candidate sites most suited for ideal growth.

We originate and develop agricultural projects in different geographies with the aim to produce high quality products, sustainable financial returns, and positive environmental outcomes.

Our work is performed with a global outlook: we have evaluated walnut, cashew, cocoa and coffee production in Latin America and hazelnut and commodity products at more northern latitudes in Eastern Europe. We take a broad approach, assessing locations not only for their physical and climatic characteristics, but also for the logistical and socio-economic context.  We embrace the challenges and rewards of working in different cultural environments.

During the decade to come we plan to expand our global portfolio of responsible agricultural projects further in new locations.

Management

Once established, our projects are carefully managed and where possible expanded, putting them on a long-term trajectory of reliable, sustainable returns, while protecting and preserving their natural environments.  We aim to provide economic opportunity and enhance the communities in which we operate.

Day-to-day management is overseen by a skilled on-site team, combining local knowledge and experience with a respect for their environment. This work is closely supported by a central office team who work to oversee long-term financial management and strategy, whilst also working in a supporting role to provide technical and agronomic advice. We regularly seek the advice of world-class agricultural experts who keep us updated on the latest research and advances in agricultural management.
